Pokemon HeartGold Cheats (Your Ultimate Guide) (1)

This post was last updated on August 1, 2023

Revisiting Heart Gold and Soul Silver is always a blast, but did you know how much you can do with cheat codes in this game? Well, wonder no longer, we’ve pulled together the absolute best Pokemon Heart Gold cheats so you can completely change how you play the game.

When you think of cheat codes you might think of infinite master balls and rare candies. We’ve got all of that and so much more; everything from randomized encounters to changing what you look like, from the infamous walk through walls cheat to a cheat that gives you unlimited shiny pokemon.

How to Activate Action Replay Codes

Before you can start mucking around with your game, we’re going to teach you how to safely apply these codes. Don’t worry, it’s a simple process and when you’re done you’ll feel like a bonafide coder.

The cheat codes we supply below all need to be entered as Action Replay codes in a DS emulator or a physical cheat cartridge.

If you do happen to be playing a physical copy of Pokemon Heart Gold, you’ll also need a physical Action Replay. If not, your DS emulator already has one preinstalled.

Pokemon HeartGold Cheats (Your Ultimate Guide) (2)

Now, our step-by-step guide to applying cheats in Pokemon Heart Gold:

  1. Open Emulator
  2. Run Pokemon Heart Gold
  3. Select ‘Setup Cheat Codes’ in the settings
  4. Create a ‘New Category’
  5. With the category selected, create a ‘New AR Code’
  6. Copy a code from our list into the text box to the right
  7. Ensure that any codes you want to use are checked
  8. Turn on cheats by selecting ‘Enable Cheats’

All that’s left is to decide what exactly you want to do, and as we said, there are plenty of options when it comes to Pokemon Heart Gold.

Pokemon Heart Gold Cheat Codes

Below is our complete list of Heart Gold cheat codes. With these, you’ll be able to turn this classic game into whatever you want, whether that’s a game full of shiny pokemon, a game where you never have to worry about random battles, or a completely new story from the perspective of Arceus itself.

Item Cheats

After inputting any of the codes in this section, you’ll have to press Land R at the same time to actually activate the desired effect. Once you’ve done that, the items can be found in your inventory.

No Wild Encounters Code

This code completely removes the need for repels by eliminating wild encounters entirely. Do be warned though, this drastically changes the difficulty of battles, so you may want to lean extra hard on battle items and rare candies.

Battle Cheats

These cheat codes will allow you to become a master of battling pokemon without any real effort. It won’t take you 25 years to become a Champion, like someone we know (cough, cough, Ash Ketchum, cough).

Restore Health Code

This code allows your pokemon to restore health in battle without the need for any medical items like potions or full restores. In order to activate it just press start while in battle and your pokemon’s health will fill up the next time they’re attacked.

Capture Trainer Pokemon Code

If you don’t want to use rare candies to level up your own pokemon, you can just capture enemy trainers’ pokemon with this cheat code.

Miscellaneous Cheats

While the cheat codes in this section don’t really fit into any neat organization, that doesn’t mean they can’t be some of the most fun you’ll have. You’ll find everything here from the ability to walk through walls to the ability to completely change your appearance.

Instant Message Speed Code

Walk Through Walls Cheat Code

This classic pokemon cheat code allows you to move beyond the game’s boundaries so you can run straight from New Bark Town all the way to Palette Town before you’ve even collected your first badge.

Be warned, this code can easily cause glitches, so be sure to save your game before using it. If things start to act weird but the game hasn’t totally stopped, just find a door to walk through and the game should load any missing assets.

To activate this code, press R and B at the same time. To disable it, save the game within bounds, and then restart the game with the cheat turned off.

Change Character Sprite Code

Okay, last but not least. This incredible code changes your overworld sprites so you can play as a completely different character. Instead of running around as Ethan or Lyra, you can transform yourself into just about any other sprite in the game, including gym leaders and pokemon!

This code doesn’t change your in-battle sprite, but that’s fine since the character is only shown for a brief moment.

To use this code, you’ll just need to replace XXXX with the listed character code.
